The main goal of our final project ‘Da Step’ is to help people to use stairs more interesting and spontaneously. As technology develops, it helps people to reduce their daily burden. However, it also makes people be lazy. Elevator is the case. People have been able to approach high-rise quickly by taking elevators, but they even use it to climb one or two floors more. The habit that people depend on elevator has a bad effect on their health and sometimes causes resource waste. We want to solve this problem through ‘Da Step’ project by using LED strips and Ultra-sonic sensors. This project includes interaction activity and interesting memory game name of ‘Da step memory game’ for daily stair users.
‘Da step’ is installed on 6 steps of stair. Each step has a Sonar and LED stripe as a pair. There are Sonars in the left side of each step for detecting where user is. Then, ‘Da step’ performs interaction activity and ‘Da step memory game’ by controlling and lightening LED stripes.
Interaction activity is to follow user’s steps by lightening LED stripe where user’s step is. Sometimes just climbing the stairs can be bored and thought consuming time. However by lightening LED as prints of users’ feet, stair can become more interesting and excited space.
Also stair users can enjoy simple and funny game name of ‘Da step memory game’. It is a memory game. First, for this game we divided 6 steps of stair into 15 cells and one starting point. If a user stands and wait 2 seconds on starting point, ‘Da step memory game’ would be started. Then notice of the way of steps is given to user. Then, user will remember that way and climb the stair following his or her memory.
In this implementing process, we put a lot of effort to increase accuracy of distance detecting and giving an intuitive reaction to user’s step by lightening and controlling LED. Although due to the radial feature of Sonar we had some difficulties and limitations, we can partly overcome by making our own detecting structures and algorithms. We hope that stair will be more interesting and exciting place to attract people to use stair for their heath through our project ‘Da step’.
